Overview

This tour is designed for a smooth cultural day exploring some of the highlights of Sintra, one of Portugal’s most enchanting destinations. Located west of Lisbon, Sintra is often described as a fairytale village, filled with colourful palaces, historic castles, and unique stories around every corner. It was once the summer retreat of the Portuguese royal family and remains one of the country’s most historically rich and scenic locations.

Depending on the option you choose, the experience is designed to suit different interests and visiting styles.

The first stop is the historic centre of Sintra, arriving early before the peak of mass tourism. Enjoy free time to explore at your own pace, stroll through the charming streets, and taste some of Sintra’s traditional pastries.

One of the available options includes a guided visit to Quinta da Regaleira, famous for its mysterious initiation gardens and symbolism connected to secret societies. References to the Knights Templar, Freemasonry, mythology, literature, and esoteric traditions can be found throughout the estate. Having a guide at this site is especially important to better understand the symbolism and stories hidden within its architecture and gardens. The famous Initiation Well and underground passages make this one of the most intriguing places in Portugal.

Another option includes a visit to the exterior terraces and gardens of Pena Palace, one of the most iconic monuments in Portugal. Known for its vibrant colours, romantic architecture, and breathtaking views, Pena Palace attracts visitors from all over the world. Unlike many standard tours, this experience begins through the lakes entrance, allowing visitors to appreciate the beauty of Pena Park before reaching the palace. Prepare for an uphill walk through the forested park planted by King Ferdinand II, who created the palace as a romantic gift visible from miles away.

Due to the current timed-entry system and the high cost of interior access, this tour focuses on exploring the exterior terraces, viewpoints, and surrounding park areas rather than the interior rooms of the palace.
