Monserrate National Palace

Palace

Sintra
Dica:

Often considered one of Sintra’s most underrated palaces, Monserrate offers a much calmer and more peaceful experience compared to the crowded main attractions. Surrounded by exotic gardens from all over the world, it is the perfect place for visitors who enjoy architecture, nature, and quiet walks away from mass tourism.

História:

Originally a site with medieval origins, Monserrate became famous in the 19th century when the English millionaire Sir Francis Cook transformed it into an extraordinary summer residence. Inspired by Romanticism and influenced by Moorish, Gothic, and Indian architecture, the palace became one of the most unique examples of exotic design in Portugal.

The surrounding gardens were carefully created with rare plants collected from different continents, turning Monserrate into both an architectural masterpiece and a botanical treasure hidden in the hills of Sintra.
