History:

Built during the 1st century AD, the Roman Theatre was part of the ancient city of Olisipo, the Roman predecessor of Lisbon. Capable of hosting thousands of spectators, it was used for theatrical performances and public events during the height of Roman rule.

Over the centuries, much of the structure disappeared beneath later construction, only being rediscovered through archaeological excavations.Today, the remaining ruins provide a rare glimpse into Lisbon's Roman past and reveal just how important the city was within the Roman Empire
